Approximately 1 percent of the Canadian population will experience bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depression, in their lifetime (“Fast Facts about Mental Illness”). This translates to approximately 355,404 people (Statistics Canada). Although manic-depression is incurable, there are several ways to reduce the risk of relapse. This report investigates three possible treatment options for bipolar disorder. The purpose of this report is to analyze, evaluate, and recommend the best treatment method. In this report, the cost, accessibility, and effectiveness of medication, therapy, and preventative measures will be discussed.
