A manager and Human Resource (HR) Professional interviewed a short-list of candidates for a position. An applicant in a wheelchair interviewed exceptionally well and the HR professional felt that she was the strongest candidate. The manager, although agreeing that she was the best candidate, did not want to hire her. The applicant clearly met all of the requirements for the position, interviewed well, and was the strongest candidate.
- Explain whether the HR professional would be correct in arguing that not hiring the disabled applicant would constitute a violation of the human rights code. If you felt that the HR professional would be correct, explain why he/she would be correct. If you felt that the HR professional would be incorrect in arguing, explain why he/she would be incorrect.
